Bi-Level Switching
Using

SwitchGenieä Controls

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 calls for NEW and innovative control options to meet the requirements of the bill.   LINK Corporation would like to inform the Department of Energy, The IRS and all interested parties that it’s product, SwitchWizard Controls has the ability to provide “BI-LEVEL SWITCHING” as required by the EPACT bill of 2005 (Click for information links).

LINK Corporation started work on the SwitchGenie Controls products in 1999 and was finally issued a patent protection on November 2, 2005.

SwitchGenie Controls are currently available to any fixture manufacturer for installation into new fixtures.  They are also available Electrical Contractors, ESCO’s, or building owners for addition to existing fixtures.   The installation of the SwitchGenie Controls allows any 2 ballast fixture to meet the Bi-Level Switching requirement.   To meet the requirements of bi-level switching by standard methods requires extensive rewiring.

Bi-Level Switching is required by the Energy Tax bill of 2005 for lighting to qualify for the $.60 per Square Foot rebate offered by the bill.

The bill calls for bi-level lighting that is equal in foot-candle distribution at 15 of 25 points in the foot-candle distribution of the full on lighting point-by-point lighting calculation.  That means that separate rows, alternate fixtures and other fixture switching patterns will have to be carefully planned so that the minimum to maximum uniformities can be maintained in 60% of the space.

SwitchGenie Controls  now can be added to any fixture with 2 ballasts and provide Bi-Level switching without any power rewiring.

SwitchGenie Controls  provide on/off control of ballasts and lights with low voltage signals from a control panel.  The control panel can be wired with telephone wire, cat 3 or cat 5 wire or it can be wireless and operate on Zigbee RF mesh technology controls.

SwitchGenie Controls work on any fluorescent fixture.

If there is only one ballast, it will be an on/control. This control can be used when a checkerboard pattern is the only option to getting bi-level switching with existing wiring and fixtures.

If there are 2 ballasts, it provides one or both ballasts on for 2 levels of lighting control.  This is when the ballasts are each 2 lamp, 3 lamp or 4 lamp ballasts.  Then the lighting output of the fixture is either 50% or 100%.

With this type of control SwitchGenie Controls  offers the option to rotate the ballast that is turned on when the 50% control button is pushed. This rotation option evens out the burn time of the ballasts and lamps so that the full rated life can be realized before the lamps need to be changed.

If there are 2 different ballasts, like a 2 lamp and a 4 lamp ballast in a 6 lamp fixture, then it provides one ballast (the 2 lamp ballast) “on” for 1/3 light output, or the other ballast (the 4 lamp ballast) “on” for the 2/3rds light output and then both ballasts on for the 100%, full on, level of lighting control.

SwitchGenie Controls  offer the option of how they power up.  They can come on after a power failure or a circuit breaker interruption or a on/off switch interruption to either the full on or the full off position.  If you have a switch in the line they should come on at full bright when you turn them on.  Then you can choose the 50% level if that is desirable.

If you do not have a switch in the line and if you have a power failure during the night you want the lights to come on in the off position so that they are not burning all night long.

The positioning of the light fixtures determines the amount of the rebate as it is based on $.60 per square foot.  The price of the fixtures must be more than the allowed rebate.

The requirement of the watts per square foot is based on the ASHRE 90.1 2001 recommendations.  A chart is attached to show the requirements.

The foot-candle recommendations by the IES are to be met as well.  They are not difficult to meet, as they are not so exact.

The uniformity of the photometric calculations must be equal 60% of the time.  The requirement makes it difficult to switch on and off entire fixtures to achieve the 40% to 50% reduction in watts per square foot.

The SwitchGenie Controls  provide exactly what the bill wants in terms of bi-level switching.

SwitchGenie Controls  are an economical and easy way to collect the money that the IRS is offering as a deduction.  The result is that a company that is making money and owns the building they occupy can receive a new energy efficient lighting system that will cut their energy bill for lighting in half, with the IRS paying part of the bill.  This is the greatest opportunity we’ve seen in years for a business to improve its profit picture, increase efficiency, improve production and make their company look better.

Take advantage of the Energy policy Acts of 2005 and 2007 and get new lighting for your plant and office.
